| View in browser Welcome to COCONUT CONNECTION Your tourism industry update from Cook Islands Tourism.  Updates from Us Under the vision of ‘Love Our Little Paradise’, we are committed to ensuring tourism helps our community, culture, environment, and economy thrive—both now and for future generations. A crucial step toward this is the ‘Our Paradise, Our Promise’ initiative, the Cook Islands’ first Destination Stewardship Plan (DSP). Major Milestone! With Cabinet’s recent endorsement, the Cook Islands has officially established a Destination Stewardship Advisory Group (DSAG) and Project Management Unit (PMU) to lead the DSP. This marks the first time an all-of-government, cross-sector approach has been taken to manage tourism responsibly.   🔗 Read more about the Cabinet endorsement here: Cook Islands Establishes Destination Stewardship Advisory Group   In case you weren't able to attend our consultations over the last weeks, have your say online!  🔗 Click here to contribute   Your voice matters — help shape the future of tourism in the Cook Islands! Takurua is coming! As part of the Cook Islands' 60th Anniversary of Self-Governance celebrations, Cook Islands Tourism is proud to present Takurua – taste of the season, a culinary celebration of identity, heritage, and connection to our homeland through food. This year’s event embraces the anniversary theme, “I know who I am, I have a homeland – Kua kite au i toku turanga, e Avaiki toku,” by showcasing a key ingredient that has long sustained our people – Kuru (breadfruit).   The Takurua event, first launched in 2018 as Takurua – Food and Feasts of the Cook Islands, is being reintroduced with a new focus on highlighting one local ingredient each year. In 2025, Kuru takes center stage, connecting generations through food, storytelling, and cultural appreciation. This event brings together local farmers, chefs, home cooks, and the wider community to explore the versatility, history, and significance of Kuru in Cook Islands cuisine.
